Guy T. Montgomery (also known by his pen name, G. T. Montgomery) was born and raised in Louisville, Kentucky. He attended Saint Xavier High School, where he was an active member of the school’s Drama Department. As a high school student, Guy (in 2000) won the first round of the annual Voice of Democracy competition overseen by the Veterans of Foreign Wars. In 2004, he was part of the Actors Theatre of Louisville summer theatre workshop, for which he penned Hot Water: An Adaptation of Lee Blessing’s “Cold Water.”
From 2004 to 2009, Guy attended Wake Forest University in Winston-Salem, North Carolina. Upon graduating, he received a Bachelor of Arts degree in English Literature. As a student at Wake Forest, he had the opportunity to study with a number of writers including Vona Groarke, Conor O’Callaghan, Dennis Sampson and Eric Wilson. After receiving his degree, Guy remained in Winston-Salem for a time and worked for Old Salem Museums and Gardens, the living history museum that works to preserve North Carolina’s Old Salem historic district. His experience there later led to his first book (Ghosts of Old Salem, North Carolina), which was released by The History Press in 2014.
In 2012, Guy won the inaugural essay-writing contest overseen by the Winston-Salem Writers organization. As a result, his essay was published in Taking Flight: 2012 later that year. He also contributed a short story (“Final Descent”) to The Nightmare Collective, an anthology of horror stories released by PlayWithDeath.com in 2015. Guy’s work likewise appears on Examiner.com, for which he writes a regular column about historic places in the Louisville area.
In 2013, Guy and his wife, Genevieve, married and subsequently moved back to Louisville, where they currently reside.
